General Questions
Q: What is Velmorya? A: Velmorya is a self-sustaining, Black-owned gated community in Georgia, built on cooperative living, community ownership, and sustainable development.
Q: Where will Velmorya be located? A: We are in the process of securing land in Georgia. Location details will be announced once purchase agreements are finalized.
Q: How is Velmorya different from other developments? A: Every home, business, and resource in Velmorya is owned by the community—not outside investors—keeping wealth and decision-making power in residents’ hands.
Housing & Homeownership
Q: How does homeownership work in Velmorya? A: Homes are financed through the New Legacy Community Mortgage Collective (NL-CMC), which ensures no foreclosure, no displacement, and shared equity for all residents.
Q: Can non-residents invest in Velmorya? A: Yes, but all investments must align with our cooperative model and community values.
Q: What types of homes will be available? A: The Unity District will feature single-family homes, townhouses, and villas—all designed for sustainability and comfort.
Community-Owned Enterprises (COEs)
Q: What are COEs? A: Community-Owned Enterprises are businesses owned collectively by Velmorya residents. Profits are reinvested into the community to fund services, jobs, and cultural programs.
Q: What types of businesses will Velmorya have? A: From agriculture to hospitality, arts, and technology—examples include the Legacy Market & Farmers’ Hub, Harmonia Arts Center, Velmorya Tech & Innovation Hub, and The Sovereign Hotel.
Build the Legacy Crowdfunding Campaign
Q: How does the Build the Legacy campaign work? A: We aim to raise $690 million by asking 6.9 million people to give $100 each. Funds go toward land acquisition, infrastructure, and community development.
Q: Is my donation tax-deductible? A: Velmorya is in the process of obtaining 501(c)(3) status. Until then, contributions are not tax-deductible, but they are still vital to building our community.
Q: How will I be recognized for my contribution? A: Donors are honored through tier-based recognition, including certificates, invitations to special events, and commemorative gifts.
Getting Involved
Q: Can I volunteer or work in Velmorya before it’s built? A: Yes! We welcome skilled professionals, organizers, and community members to assist with fundraising, outreach, and planning.
Q: How can I stay updated on progress? A: Join our mailing list or follow us on social media for regular updates, event announcements, and milestones.
Q. How is day-to-day governance structured? A. Velmorya uses a Civic Circle model: residents elect district stewards, form thematic councils (finance, education, security), and vote on budgets. Major bylaws require a two-thirds resident majority. The Council on Diaspora Affairs handles external diplomacy.
